How do I view CCTV on my phone?
Most modern shop camera systems can push a live or playback view to a phone. The goal for an owner away from the floor isn’t to micromanage every transaction — it’s to check the floor when something feels off, and to review moments later with context.
Short answer
Use your camera vendor’s official app or web client (Hikvision, Dahua, Axis, and many NVR brands support phone view). Confirm remote access is set up securely (strong unique password, updates, preferably no exposed default ports). Then decide what you’ll actually check: open/close, till area, door, and playback for specific times — not endless live scrolling.
Setup checklist (owner-level)
- Official app from your camera/NVR brand (or a trusted VMS you already use).
- Account security: unique password, 2FA if offered, firmware not years out of date.
- Test playback, not only live — you’ll need timestamps for till and incident review.
- Know which cameras cover the counter, entrance, and floor you care about.
Healthy use vs unhealthy use
Healthy: “Did opening staff arrive?” “What happened at 2:14 when the till voided?” “Is the queue a bottleneck or demand?” Unhealthy: watching every break chat. Pair remote view with ops questions — see how to run a cafe without being there and AU context in CCTV to monitor staff in Australia.

Phone CCTV is step one — floor coaching is step two
Keep remote view for open/close and exceptions. Don’t live in the camera app. Floor analytics on the same feeds you already ignore most of the day can surface queues, greet windows, and till moments worth coaching — without babysitting live video.
